Who Is Sylvester Jackson?

A formerly incarcerated individual who spent 10 years in prison.

Now, CEO and Co-founder of Believers for Change, a Milwaukee-based organization focused on re-entry support, youth empowerment, and criminal justice reform.

Lead organizer for EXPO (Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing) in the past, advocating for fair treatment and opportunities for those re-entering society.

Spotlight on Injustice in Milwaukee

Jackson has been outspoken about:

Inhumane conditions in the Milwaukee County Jail, including lack of recreation, poor food, and mental health neglect.

The death of six individuals in custody over 14 months, sparking calls for transparency and reform.

A recent protest where 27 incarcerated men barricaded themselves in a jail library to demand better treatment. Jackson defended their actions as civil disobedience aimed at drawing public attention to systemic abuse.

Community Action & Advocacy

Jackson helped lead weekly rallies to prevent the closure of the Flemers O. Chaney Correctional Center, which provides work-release programs for incarcerated men. He argued that shutting it down would destabilize lives and communities.

He’s also featured in interactive bus stops across Milwaukee, sharing his story of redemption and transformation to inspire youth and combat violence.

His Philosophy

Jackson believes that real change comes from collective action and storytelling. He’s quoted saying, “You’re sacrificing for the change,” emphasizing the courage it takes to stand up against injustice.
